July 11, 2010

Thank you for continuing to journey with our dear sister Miriam. This week she is going to take a new direction in her journey to healing, as she begins a series of chemotherapy treatments. We have been praying, together with Miriam, that she could begin with the Oncologist's preferred type of chemotherapy, but it appears that the health insurance company is insisting that a more common type of chemotherapy be tried first. So, on Monday (July 12), we will take Miriam into the Lion's Gate Hospital in Vancouver, where she will undergo her first treatment. We have no idea how Miriam will respond to the treatment, but would appreciate your ongoing prayers for courage, faith, and trust that God is in full control and that He has already gone on ahead of Miriam to prepare the way.

Streams in the Desert continues to bring such encouragement over these days. The reading from July 9 reminds us that God is fully sovereign in what happens in our lives. The leading verse is from Isaiah 48:10, "I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction." The reading goes on to say, "Sickness, you may intrude into my life, but I have a cure standing ready - God has chosen me ... Through all your fiery trials, His presence is both your comfort and safety. He will never forsake those He has chosen as His own." Earlier on in the week, another reading reminded us that delay does not mean denial. We choose to trust that God's timing is right and that he will give strength in the journey.

Again, we so appreciate you standing with Miriam during this time. She continues to lean heavily into our heavenly Father and knows that many of you are faithfully supporting her in prayer. Thanks for all of your encouragement through emails, texts, and phone calls to Miriam.
